    Kahli Johnson scored twice and the Calgary Wild won their first road match of the new Northern Super League with a 4-1 decision against the Halifax Tides on Saturday at Wanderers Grounds in Halifax. Meikayla Moore opened the scoring three minutes into the match, and teammate Meggie Dougherty Howard scored four minutes later to give the Wild a 2-0 lead. Johnson scored her first goal 26 minutes into the half and the Wild — who lost their season opener 1-0 on April 16 to the host Vancouver Rise — enjoyed a 3-0 lead at halftime.     Whitecaps defeat Messi and Inter Miami 2-0 in 1st leg of CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal

    The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Lionel Messi and Inter Miami FC 2-0 at B.C. Place Thursday night in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal.     Having played for clubs in the United States, Germany, Sweden and Iceland, veteran Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod has been around the soccer block.     Canada will play a pair of women’s soccer friendlies against Haiti in Winnipeg and Montreal in FIFA’s May-June international window. The May 31 game at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg has been dubbed a “special celebration match honouring the extraordinary international career” of veteran midfielder Desiree Scott, a native Winnipegger who has announced her international retirement.     Top-flight soccer matches in Italy and Argentina were postponed after the death of Pope Francis on Monday. The Buenos Aires club that the Argentine pontiff supported throughout his life was also mourning its most famous fan. The wider soccer and sports world paid homage after Francis died at 88.
